Safety and Operations

Safety & Operations

Good travel depends
on good preparation.

Our operational approach is built around preparation, clear responsibilities, appropriate risk planning and responsive support throughout each program.

Our Approach

Safety is part of how the program is designed and operated.

Good operational planning starts before guests arrive and continues throughout the program.

Different programs create different operating environments. A city-based cultural program does not require the same planning as a multi-day trek, cycling journey or student group.

Our approach is therefore based on the specific program, activity, location, group and conditions rather than a single generic checklist.

Operating Framework

Prepare. Assess.
Operate. Respond.

01

Prepare

Review the program, confirm suppliers and logistics, and consider weather and local conditions before departure.

02

Assess

Consider the operating environment, participant needs, activity requirements and the practical risks associated with the program.

03

Operate

Deliver the program with clear responsibilities, professional guides, active communication and local operational support.

04

Respond

Act quickly when circumstances change, escalate when required and support guests, guides and partners through the situation.

Risk Planning by Program

The planning should match the experience.

Risk considerations vary according to the program, activity, location and group.

01

General Touring

Transport, accommodation, pedestrian environments, local conditions, accessibility, guest health considerations and supplier coordination.

02

Hiking & Trekking

Route difficulty, weather, terrain, access, permits, participant suitability, guide requirements, evacuation options and remote operating conditions.

03

Cycling

Traffic, route surface, elevation, weather, rider ability, equipment, mechanical support, support vehicles and emergency access.

04

Educational Travel

Student supervision, activity suitability, program pacing, transport, accommodation, dietary requirements and clear responsibilities between operating and school teams.

05

Specialist Activities

Additional planning is applied where programs include specialist activities, environments or suppliers requiring specific operating controls.

Before Departure

Preparation begins before the group does.

Conditions, suppliers and operational details are reviewed in the lead-up to departure so the operating team has the information it needs.

01 Weather & Local Conditions
02 Supplier Reconfirmation
03 Transport & Access
04 Guide Preparation
05 Guest Information

Clear Responsibilities

People need to know what they are responsible for.

01

Guides & Tour Leaders

Lead the group on the ground, manage immediate guest needs, follow the operating plan and communicate changes or concerns to the operations team.

02

Operations Team

Coordinate suppliers and logistics, support guides during delivery and help arrange operational changes when circumstances require them.

03

Management

Provide escalation and decision support for significant incidents, operational disruptions and situations requiring senior oversight.

04

Suppliers & Contractors

Deliver their contracted services according to agreed operating requirements and communicate relevant issues to the Origin Wild team.

During Operations

Stay close to what is happening on the ground.

Operational oversight continues while the program is underway.

01 Guide Communication

Maintain communication between the guide team and local operations.

02 Group Accountability

Maintain awareness of the group and respond quickly when plans or guest circumstances change.

03 Operational Support

Coordinate practical changes involving suppliers, transport, accommodation or program delivery.

04 Escalation

Escalate significant safety, medical or operational issues through the appropriate management chain.

When Something Changes

Plans can change. The response still needs structure.

Weather, transport disruption, illness, route conditions or other unexpected events can affect a travel program.

Our operating approach prioritizes guest safety, clear communication, practical decision-making and timely escalation when circumstances require it.

01 Protect People
02 Understand the Situation
03 Communicate Clearly
04 Coordinate the Response
05 Record & Follow Up
