While you explore Nenggao, you will be able to take in its rich history. The history between the Japanese and Aboriginal tribes is evident as you cross from Wushe to Tianchi, and up to Qilai South Peak. See the area once used as hunting grounds for the local tribes. During the Japanese occupation era the trail was used to subdue the tribes. As you hike to Qilai South Peak under the stars the famous “Sea of Clouds” will emerge. You can take this incredible hiking trail to the many mountain peaks above, or all the way to Hualien!

What you need to know:
A 2 Day / 2 Night Tour
Jade Mountain is Taiwan’s highest peak with an elevation of 3,952 meters. This is one of the most popular hikes in Taiwan requires a hiking permit, which are very competitive to get. Obtaining a hiking permit is not guaranteed. Our standard Jade Mountain group trips involve stay overnight at a 3-star hotel as a group with shared accommodation close to the trailhead. Guests can expect stunning vistas and views of the Central Mountain Range. Although Jade Mountain is considered by some to be one of Taiwan’s easier high mountain hikes, guests are required to have a moderate level of fitness and endurance.
Round trip private transportation will be provided from a central location (e.g. Taipei Main Station) to the Jade Mountain Trail trailhead near. In the event you require some special assistance in getting picked up, we’ll make sure you get sorted out.
Day 1 – Starts at 6:00am with a hike to Paiyun Lodge (3,402m) spanning roughly 4-6 hours during a gorgeous, gradual climb. We drop gear and head to Yushan West Peak (3,518m) before returning to the lodge for sunset, dinner, and an early night’s rest.
DAY 2 – Early morning wake up at 2 am to start ascent to the Main Peak (3,952m) and the roof of Taiwan for sunrise. After taking photos we will descend to the Paiyun Lodge, eat lunch and continue back down.
We’re fond of good, healthy food. Especially on the trail. Our guides will cook and prepare the hearty vegetarian meals for guests.
Meals included will be Day One – Breakfast Lunch, Dinner, Day Two – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner,.
Guests can bring other personal snacks as they require, but will be asked to carry these resources and are responsible for carrying all their garbage out of the National Park.
Our scheduled events to Jade Mountain regularly cost NTD $11,500/guest and are coordinated with a maximum of 6 guests.
This covers transportation, guides, meals, accommodation (in mountain huts), insurance, permits and planning assistance for porters (if needed).

Guides & Gear
Our guides are certified mountaineering guides and all have received wilderness advanced first-aid training. These professional guides are bilingual and well versed in the local culture, flora and fauna. They’re also fun people to spend an experience like this with.
As far as gear goes, you will essentially need a comfortable and solid pair of hiking books (and comfortable socks!), a durable and waterproof jacket and at least a 50L backpack. Hiking poles are not necessary, but many do climb with them. Don’t worry. We will provide a full packing list once booking is confirmed.
What other travelers say about Taiwan Adventure Outings
TAO were an amazing company to travel with, I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting an adventure!― Bonnie S, April 2019
As two young women traveling around Taiwan, we felt incredibly safe and comfortable.
To top off our love for TAO, TAO supports eco-friendly tourism and regularly cleans up the local community. I will definitely be recommending TAO to others and coming back for another hike if given the opportunity. 10/10!― Alyssa B, December 2019
